Vocab Quiz

Many of the new video game consoles like Ps3, XBox 360, and the Wii. They have all been Divisive about their systems. Nintendo Wii has been the Pinnacle, of all games. The new game "Call of duty 4" was Fabricated very well by the graphics, which is why so many are selling. The X box 360 is Capacious due to all the memory that it is able to store, and save many games. They have all made a lot of money by making the graphics better and then by lowering prices but not to much, but enough that they still make money. Since the X box 360 has came out with newer games, the Wii's population started to Atrophy, because of the newer consoles that came out.

Reflective essay

I believe the moral or the key message would have to be to try and accept yourself for who you are or don’t try and change your life for someone else. All three of them show that a lot they go to the extreme for other people. Although, for Wanda, because she is searching for love but she still does bad things to her body just for men.

Lisa Loomer says many things about today’s society, and what people believe to be beauty. One way isshe shows this through the eyes of the three main characters. The first and most important one would have to be how some people go to the extreme just to look “Beautiful”. Some of these are starvation, surgery, and many weight loss programs. Many times people do this for others because they think that it will make themselves more attractive to others. Loomer also tries and shows some of the dangers that can happen to you, mainly through the eyes of Wanda.

Forgiveness from heaven- I think that throughout the second scene she really becomes her own person. She gains confidence and starts to get mad at her husband because he is always brings home new wives. She wants to do what she wants and begins to stick up for herself by not being pushed around by her husband. At the very end of act two, she takes off her bandages and that is when I really saw her becoming her own person and shows that she is going to do whatever she wants.

Wanda- In the beginning all she cared about was her appearance and what other men thought of her. Once she found out that there was a possibility that she could have breast cancer and then she did, it really affected her greatly cause she felt that that was her whole life. There was one scene where Wanda calculated all the time she spent on makeup and other products. She said “I am just going to stop wearing makeup and I don’t care what other people think”. To me, that really showed that she was her own person and she didn’t care what others thought.

Victoria- I didn’t really see her evolve that much in the end like how I saw the others. She said in one part at the end “ok I have to put on my twenty pounds of clothes and corset”. In my eyes, it showed that she was still basically under a spell of her husband just so he would still love her. I think that he should have just loved her for who she is and not for what she looks like.

Larry was always trying to get his drug passed because he knew that he would have made a lot of money. Ken knew that there could’ve been a possibility of HIV/Aids so he couldn’t have let that drug pass. He stopped it outside of the U.S so many people in my circle didn’t know why and if he had the control over drugs outside the states. To me, Loomer is saying that even sometimes when the manufacture knows that there is a possibility of HIV or any other potential threats, they will still try their hardest to get it passed. I believe the reason for this is so that they are able to still make money.

I think that she wrote her play like this because she wanted to show a moral to her story and show that sometimes trying to make yourself beautiful can affect you. I think this script works well in the sense of showing you how beauty images have changed over a vast time period and what women went through and still go through just to make themselves beautiful.

Fairy tales

Today when I was reading the article I thought that it was very interesting to me of how they compared movies and fairy tales to the real world. I think that mainly they focus on a beautiful princess, when kids are younger their minds are like sponges so they absorb everything that they hear see or read. Once they get this image of "pretty" or "perfect beauty", this is what they try and become when they get older.
I think that people should be who they are and not try and reenact a book or a movie and try and be someone their not. Many times a teen in particular looks up to a movie star or someone famous. Say Lindsay Lohan and some of things that she does young girls might try and do that to make them selves look "pretty".

Seminar Reflection

When I was reading the two different articles I was really surprised by some of the things that I read. One of the quotes that I read was "One of the most ordered entre was a burger." I think that this shows that hardly anybody eats healthier food from fast food restaurants. We mainly talked about how the media portrays how teens in specific look up to famous people. Whenever they hear that they did something it can reflect on the people who look up to to them.
The seminar that we had I thought that it was very
intriguing because I learned a lot about how the media reflects on car almost corrupt the minds of teens. I know that you should just be your own person and not have what other people think run your life.

Does Color Matter

Many people in different countries are bleaching their skin with creams and other products to make their skin look Pallid. The reason why women in Mali are bleaching them selves is to Embellish their natural skin color, trying to make them selves seem more Salacious. Many of the women that do this are Ebullient because they believe that after they do this that many people will see them selves as being beautiful. Whenever the women do this is not Salubrious to them. The products that they use can be toxic to their health and can affect their health in many different ways. Sometimes it can burn their skin and be very painful.

You Tube Video!?!

When I watched the video in the begging it was sort of confusing because all it showed was a girl. When I saw all the pictures I then realized that it was showing how the media portrays and corrupts the minds of other people mainly young people by showing models and famous people and letting them know new diets, and weight loss programs. Many people see others and think that they are not good enough so they force them selves to throw up or become anorexic, these people try to be someone else just to impress people , or make them selves feel better. I think that people should learn to like you for who you are and it doesn't matter what your skin color is or your size or your eye color or any other features about you. Who you are is who you are. I don't think you have to change your appearance just to impress someone.

Seminar #1

This seminar was very interesting to me. We started off by talking about the four cardinal virtues, those are Prudence, Fortitude, Temperance, and Justice. The main one that we showed more focus on was Justice. Many times in our discussion people brought up Eye of the beholder. We came up with some of our own virtues.
Many thoughts were said on how people were deciding on how far an apology could go because if the same person came up to you and said sorry, and you always for gave them you would seem like somewhat of a pushover.

Women In Ancient Greece

How did women's roles in society differ from Athens and Sparta?
Women's roles in Athens were that they would always serve the men. They weren't that high up in class, and unlike Spartan women they weren't expected to learn how to read or write. Spartan women had more of a larger role and weren't so low down in class. Women in Athens were only a little bit higher in class compared to the slaves.
If the Greeks are considered so advanced, so culturally elite, why do you believe gender equality (equality between men and women) was not established?
I think that since things were mainly run by men and women didn't really have a say. Men in that era were just probably seen as being more dominant so they saw it as that the men should always decide what would be going on.

SOCRATES' CAFE

What is so beautiful about youth?
What is beautiful about youth is so beautiful is because they always are willing to attempt and try new things. They always have things to look forward and have a long journey ahead of them. I see youth being beautiful because they encounter great things and new challenges in their life.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I decided to choose this picture in specific because every time that I hear the waves break it is a soothing sound to me. The reason why I think that it represents beauty is because they don't just come in one same form, like beauty it is not always in one certain way. It comes in different shapes sizes and colors.

I chose this picture of different flags because to me beauty is not just shown through one race or person. It doesn't matter what race you come from because some cultures see beauty differently then what others might. People can sometimes be judged by what types of clothing they wear or what their appearance in general looks like. I think that this is how the world is like today where people are being judged by what you look like.
